Portsmouth Charity Bids for Police Station

12noon Tuesday 28th March was the closing deadline for bids for the Police Station on Highland Road, Eastney, Portsmouth.

The locally listed building dates back to the 1930s and has a car park at the rear, with the total site extending to 0.95acres. The building was used as passenger and transport offices which were part of the Eastney tram and bus depot complex prior to being taken over by the police.

Parity Trust, a Portsmouth based charity is one of a number of interested parties. Our proposal is for 100% affordable housing for the local community to purchase on a shared ownership basis. Some of these properties will be mobility flats, forhighland-rd-police-station amputees and wheelchair users, which in a military city is much needed.

SJ Davis, CEO of Parity Trust has said “the site provides a fantastic opportunity and if we were the ones to acquire it, our plans include protecting the façade of the building and some of the historic interior panelling whilst providing office space for small businesses looking to grow. This will be facilitated alongside accessible flats and affordable housing to provide homes for local people on a shared ownership basis. We are hoping a community based project utilising a community building and a local charity will be the preferred bidder”.

Do you have any old photos of the site? If so, please email them to us or share them with us on twitter as they would be keen to acknowledge the history of the site if successful with their bid.
